The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who

Written with Dr Marek Kukula of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who is published by BBC Books on 4 June 2015. It contains 15 original short stories (which I edited) based on a scientific theme, each accompanied by an essay exploring that theme in more detail.

Doctor Who: "Re: Collections"

"Re:Collections" (May 2009) comprises the best Doctor Who short stories from 28 volumes of Big Finish's Short Trips range. I have chosen and written introductions for stories from each of the three volumes I edited ("The Lampblack Wars" by Matthew Sweet from The History of Christmas; "The Avant Guardian" by Eddie Robson from Time Signature; "Lares Domestici" by Anna Bratton from How The Doctor Changed My Life), and had a story of mine chosen, too ("How You Get There").

Doctor Who: "How The Doctor Changed My Life"

In 2006-07, Big Finish ran a short story competition open to anyone who'd never been paid for a work of fiction. We were looking for one winner, but the shortlist of 25 was so good, I edited them in a book: Doctor Who: Short Trips - How the Doctor Changed My Life (September 2008).

Bernice Summerfield: season 8

I produced the six audio plays and three books of Bernice Summerfield's eighth season (2007).

Doctor Who: "Dalek Empire"

I co-edited Doctor Who: Short Trips - Dalek Empire (December 2006) with Nicholas Briggs when his commitments on the Doctor Who TV show prevented him from doing this single-handed. I'd also already written two stories for the book - "The Best Joke I Ever Told" and "The Eighth Wonder of the World".

Doctor Who: "Time Signature"

I edited the anthology Doctor Who: Short Trips - Time Signature (October 2006), which builds on (and reprints) my earlier short story, "An Overture Too Early". I also wrote a story to wrap tieing up this anthology, "DS al Fine".

Bernice Summerfield: "Something Changed"

I edited the anthology Something Changed (January 2006), which included my opening chapter "Inappropriate Laughter" - read it for free online - and my closing one, "After Life".

Bernice Summerfield: "Parallel Lives"

I edited the collection of three novellas Parallel Lives (January 2006), and wrote four pieces of linking material. You can read the first, "Parallel Lives" (I), for free.

Doctor Who: "The History of Christmas"

I edited the anthology Doctor Who: Short Trips - The History Of Christmas" (December 2005), and also contributed a story ("Christmas on the Moon").

Bernice Summerfield: "A Life Worth Living"

I edited the anthology A Life Worth Living (September 2004). It's the first anthology I ever edited. Paul Cornell offered me the job in a pub in March 2004: he'd been meant to edit it, but was too busy writing an episode of the new Doctor Who TV series.
